Twin Peaks Illustrated - Portraits

Let's start a new animation : Twin Peaks illustrated !

I will take several weeks that's deserve it because Twin Peaks is a great tv show with many interesting characters and an unique atmosphere.

After did so many male characters for Breaking Bad, I wanted to change a little and to add some softness with ladies portraits. Don't worry, I will make the male portraits in a second time. 

For those illustrations, I include more wood texture for the backgrounds and 90's  pattern for their knitwears like plaid, leather, wool. I enjoy to try to capture thinking expression. 

 On my free time, I love to work on mixing illustration and motion design. As fan of Twin Peaks, I wanted to make a tribute motion design since two years. I just started in november to draw about thirty five portraits, that actually a work in progress.

 I asked to my friend Romain Trouillet which is music compositor to work with me on this project. As he did great job on the two previous motion design: Stanley Kubrick - a filmography and Tim Burton - a filmography.

  Our goal is to make a tribute with our style to that awesome tv serie Twin Peaks.

Greetings for 2013

All my best wishes for 2013 !

2012 was a great year for me. First of all, I left my job in february 2012 for many reasons, the main one  was I was getting bored to not use my creativity. I was mostly at phone or answering mails to clients.

Then, from march 2012, I started my freelance activity and I was working as graphic designer for some clients and works on my free time for the contest on Tim Burton. 

Like for the previous contest of 2011 and Kubrick, I didn't win the contest but, I had many positive feedbacks from the fan worldwide and the professionals. My friend Romain Trouillet did again a great job for the music.

During summer 2012,  I keep on working on personal projects during my free time. In september, I uploaded Breaking Bad - illustrated. That time, I selected and bought a music online because Romain was busy to that time. I wanted to make something more rock and roll and dynamic than my previous animation.

Once again, people worldwide appreciated it and I got many positive feedbacks. It was incredible: Times Magazine called me for an interview for their website, two characters tweets about it and in four months now around 390 K people saw it (youtube/vimeo/dailymotion)

For 2013, I am working on the new animation: Twin Peaks illustrated. I want after that finish Takeshi Kitano, a filmography. And I have other projects of motion design.

Breaking Bad - Concours Arte

Recently, I saw a contest on the german/french channel "Arte". The rules was to make a poster with the channel logo and visuals of Breaking Bad. With all my previous illustrations, I made this one, I spent one day to set up all the composition. I corrected it few times before to submit this to them. Basically, Vince Gilligan himself will choose the best ones from the contest. It's a good opportunity if he can see my works. By the way, let's see what will happen because I register a bit lately. 

Killer Joe

After been with friends watched the move Killer Joe, I wanted to make a tribute to this great movie.

I was very moved by the character of Dottie played by Juno Temple. I started by vectorize her and  to keep her kind and innocent expression.

Then, the rough and crual world. *Spoiler alert* Joe fall in love of Dottie, that's why I added her in Joe like she is in his world and 'protected' by him. That's my interpretation, even if he is not good to her. 

The colors of Dottie are worm, the water and fire elements are very important in the movie. I wanted to make the outside world rainy, like the movie. Joe made this world explode (the cigarettes, the Joe's name in the title similar to the original poster movie, and the spanks added)

The family silhouette are far away, lost by the situation and dominated by Joe. The rain is a little bit in Sin City's style.

In the background a light impression of the dollar and the eagle meaning as well the police symbol, because Joe's main job.

Après avoir été avec des amis, voir le film Killer Joe, j'ai voulu rendre hommage à celui-ci.

J'ai été touché par le personnage de Dottie joué par Juno Temple. J'ai commencé par la vectoriser et essayé de garder son expression de gentillesse et d'innocence.

Puis, le cruel et dur monde représenté par Joe. *Spoiler alerte* Dans le film, Joe tombe sous le charme de Dottie, c'est pour cela que je l'ai incluse dans la silhouette de Joe comme si il la protégeait. Il s'agit juste de mon interprétation.

Les couleurs de Dottie sont chaudes l'eau et le feu sont des éléments très important dans le film. J'ai voulu reproduire l'atmosphère pluvieuse du film. Les actions de Joe sont très explosives, j'ai voulu reproduire cette idée à travers la cigarette qui fait exploser son nom dans le titre, j'ai reprodut le graphisme du titre du poster original en ajoutant plus de brillance sur le E de Joe et des étincelles, conséquences de ces actes.

Quand à la famille, elle est loin, dominée par Joe, plus spectatrice qu'actrice de son destin. La pluie est dans le style de Sin City.

Dans l'arrière-plan, un dollar est présent en filigramme avec le symbole du pygargue (aigle à tête blanche) qui représente les états-unis et le travail principal de Joe au sein de la police.
